Prerequisites
DSM 6.2 or above
Compatible Synology NAS model
Synology Account for activation
Microsoft 365 admin access
Check NAS compatibility:
Synology Compatibility List
Activate Package
Open AB4M365 → Click Activate
Sign in with your Synology Account
Agree to Terms & Conditions
Create a Backup Task
Go to Task List → Click Create
Choose Microsoft 365 Endpoint
Upload certificate & set password
Authorise using Microsoft login
Configure:
Task Name
Backup Destination
Users/Groups/Sites/Teams to include
(Optional) Enable Self-Service Portal
Set Auto-discovery options
Choose Backup Policy:
Continuous (every 1–10 mins, dynamic)
Scheduled (user-defined time)
Manual
Choose Retention Policy:
Keep all versions
Keep versions for specified days
Review Summary → Click Apply
Manage Backup Tasks
Access via Task List
Actions:
Edit backup target / policies
Enable/Disable Auto-discovery
Modify Azure AD application
Delete specific user/group/site/team data under Storage Management
View Logs
Go to Log tab
Use filters: Keyword, Type, or Date
View restore activities and errors
Click ▸ icon for log detail (Status, Restore Info)
Restore via Self-Service Portal
Enable Portal Access
Admin:
Control Panel > Login Portal > Applications > Active Backup for Microsoft 365 Portal
Users:
Click Active Backup for Microsoft 365 Portal on the DSM main menu.
Restore Steps
View Role – Choose user/site
Task – Select backup task
Service – Choose:
Drives
Mails
Contacts
Calendars
Sites
Teams
Date/Version – Use timeline or calendar
Actions:
Restore to original tenant
Export to local machine
Teams Backup Coverage
SharePoint Team Sites + Subsites
Files (channel/chat uploads)
Wiki tab
OneNote notebooks
Teams messages
